Ayako Makinose ( (まき) () () (あや) () Makinose Ayako?) is a supporting character in Witch Watch series.

She was a warlock know as the Enchanter ( () () () (じょ) Fuyo no Majo?). She was one of the main antagonists of Dogs and Raindrops Arc alongside Wolf.

Etymology[]

  • The name Ayako means "sentence/literature/style/art/decoration" (文) (aya) and "child" (子) (ko).
  • Ayako's surname Makinose means "breed/shepherd/feed" (牧) (maki), "this/now/here" (之) (no) and "rapids/current/torrent/shallows" (瀬) (se).

Appearance[]

In her first appearance, Ayako wore a black robe with a mask to cover her face. Her actual appearance is that of an elderly person, having long hair and wrinkles on her face. As a result of her pact she was rendered to a diminutive state easily fitting a person's hand. She normally lies on a small pot she can levitate for transport.

Personality[]

Ayako is a selfish person who always wanted to do as she pleased with no regard or care for anybody else. A fairly stereotypical villain, once she learned of her magical powers, Ayako used them for her own benefit and engaged on petty acts of evil her entire life, believing herself entitled to do so as someone "special".

Despite all her actions, Ayako is presently embittered as despite committing evil deeds well into her elder years, her magical power remained dismal and she never achieved the happiness she believed she would by using her magic selfishly. This would make her to make a pact for greater power for a chance at greatness.

Ayako has no qualms about using others for her own misdeeds, manipulating others through her magic as puppets or otherwise force a pact with Keigo to secure a powerful servant by lying about her end of the deal, offering a powerful medicine she did not in fact possess. Nonetheless, she had a remnant of decency left, and was willing to help Nico after the latter persuaded her to live in peace.

History[]

Ayako grew up in a strict family, she dedicated herself to studying so she never did any social activity, when she graduated her family decided that she would marry what she would refuse and run away from her home and family.[1]

Some time later, she would discover that she could use levitation magic, searching her family roots she found that one of her ancestors was a witch, knowing this and manifesting her magic she thought she was the one chosen for some special situation, she used her magic to steal and do evil for which she was considered a warlock.[2]

As she aged, her magic remained minimal and with no real happiness, refusing to die in such a shameful way she accepted a deal from an unknown witch to capture the witch of a thousands.[3] This pact granted Ayako greater power, but it came at a cost, greatly reducing her height to a diminutive size forcing her to levitate within a small pot for transportation, but would return to normal size if she succeeded.

Looking for a familiar that would serve her she would find Keigo who had werewolf blood. Ayako learned of the accident he suffered which rendered his mother to a wheelchair and offered him a special medicine that can heal any wound, which is made from a witch's umbilical cord.[4]

After her plan failed, she wanted to tell Nico who was behind her plan causing a disintegration spell to activate causing her death.[5] In the aftermath it would be revealed her deal with Keigo was fraudulent as Ayako was not born as a witch, which meant she never had her own medicine.
