Mogari Otake ( (おお) (たけ) 虎落 (もがり) Ōtake Mogari?) is a supporting character in Witch Watch series.

He was an ogre member of the Otake Clan and Ran's father. Centuries later, he and other ogres would train Morihito Otogi.

Etymology[]

  • The name Mogari means "tiger" (虎) (mo) and "fall/drop/village/hamlet" (落) (gari).
    • His name also means "tiger drop" (虎落).
  • Mogari's surname Otake means "big/great" (大) (oo) and "peak" (嶽) (take).

Appearance[]

Mogari is a tall person with dark hair and a cross-shaped scar on his face. He wears a jailer outfit as well as a pendant that Ran would later wear.

In an unknown time before meeting Uzu, he would wear a mask.

Personality[]

Mogari usually takes his work very seriously as well as participating in something he does not agree with. He can be friendly to other people and help them if they ask him for help.

According to Ran, Mogari was an apathetic person who never loved his son.[2]

History[]

At an unknown time he would write in the book of Ogre Qigong Fighting Arts, writing his techniques to safeguard them for the use of future generations[3].

Mogari would participate in the great mage war with the Otogi clan as part of the witches' side, they exterminated the warlocks leaving one warlock alive.

Mogari would be in charge of watching over the surviving warlock, Mogari would discover that it was the Undying Witch, so he would be surprised to learn more about her.

After a while Uzu would ask him to help her die and for that she must give birth to a child, Mogari would help Uzu to escape and help her to have the child, when the child was born Uzu could die.

After that Mogari would take Ran to the mountains so that he was away from humans, some time later Mogari would die from an accident in the mountains.

Relationships[]

Ran Otake[]

According to Ran, he was not wanted by his father so he was often ignored by him. However, the reality is that Mogari would teach him how to survive on his own, even though Ran had forgotten it, realizing that he was loved by his father.

Uzu[]

Their relationship would begin to be turbulent since being an ogre and a warlock both would be enemies but due to the time they spent together, Mogari would begin to get along with Uzu to the point that he would begin to think that witches were not so good after all.

Both would generate a bond of trust and friendship for which Uzu would ask him to help her fulfill her greatest wish, to die. Mogari would help her escape and have a child with her, so between tears Mogari would say goodbye to Uzu by helping her fulfill her dream.

  • Mask: In an unknown time, Mogari would create a mask to go unnoticed.[4] This mask has horns and fangs.
