Reiji Otogi ( (おと) () (れい) () Otogi Reiji?) is a supporting character in Witch Watch series.

He's an ogre and Morihito's father. He was known to be one of the strongest ogres of his generation and an Ogre Qigong master.[2]

Etymology[]

  • The name Reiji means "peak/summit" (嶺) (rei) and "humanity/virtue/charity" (仁) (ji).
  • Reiji's surname Otogi means "witty/chic/quaint" (乙) (oto) and "tree/wood" (木) (gi).

Appearance[]

Reiji has his hair pulled back, his hairstyle contains two standing hairs that simulate horns. He is seen wearing a pair of glasses. He is a tall and strong person. His attire is a light buttoned up shirt with khakis.

In the past he used to have less disheveled and long hair, with locks of hair covering his forehead.

Personality[]

Reiji usually helps whoever needs it, be it a close friend or a stranger. He loves his son very much and wanted a normal life for his son, until Morihito asked him to help control his ogre abilities.

Despite his appearance and personality, Reiji is a kind person and always treats everyone with respect. Reiji has the same passion as Morihito about doing his own thing and being self-reliant, making his own coffee with beans he picks himself from his personal garden.

In the past, Reiji used to hold a grudge against his ogre roots, vowing to never impart the knowledge of ogre qigong to his children and accepting that his bloodlines abilities grew weaker with each generation.

History[]

Reiji was born as a member of the Otogi ogre clan. When he was little and as part of their tradition, his father taught him the Ogre Qigong techniques. In his own words, he and Kakuraibo have known each other since they were children.[3]

When he grows up, he moves away from Yuzenkyo and integrates into society living like a normal human. On some occasions he used to help the Kiryu family take care of some yokai.[4]

Twenty years before the current events, Reiji would meet Ibuki, Kuon and Taiga who together with Kakuraibo would embark on a mission to stop Jura's resurrection.[5]

Time later, he getting married and he had a son named Morihito and they would move to a human city so that Morihito could live a normal life.

After Nico left to train her, Reiji began training Morihito to control his Ogre abilities.

Some time later he would meet Ran, an ogre looking for him to confront Reiji, celebrating the occasion Reiji decides to take Ran to his house to meet Morihito and train with him, two weeks later Ran would leave the house.

Years later, when Nico decides to select Morihito as her familiar, Reiji understands the situation and decides to convince Morihito to accept the task.

Although for Morihito and the others, Reiji is on a business trip,[6] however, it would later be revealed that Reiji actually travels around the country looking for cracks that can release magical energy to seal them and prevent another resurrection from being carried out.[7]

His relationship with his wife and how they met is unknown, but it is known that Reiji loved his wife more than anyone else. According to his character profile, after the death of his wife, Reiji would vow to remain celibate.

Morihito Otogi[]

Reiji and Morihito always had a special connection since they are both ogres, so they were able to spend more time together by spending time training. Reiji loves his son despite his seriousness and wishes the best for him and for him not to feel alone by rejoicing for him when he made friends with boys his age. Reiji trusts his son's responsibility.

They both have known each other since they were children, however due to the deep-rooted rivalry between ogres and tengus, they used to fight every time they spoke, even turning into arguments. Over time, they both would become friends.
