Shikimi (
He's a warlock known as the Forest Witch (
Shikimi is the mastermind behind the plan to revive Jura, recruiting several warlocks with the goal of obtaining the Witch of Thousands.
Etymology[]
- Shikimi's name means "cypress" (樒) (shikimi).
- His name also refers to Japanese star anise known as Shikimi (樒) in Japan.
Appearance[]
Shikimi has short dark hair. He has dark colored eyes that feature rungs around his pupils. On his forehead he has a drawing of thorns covering him, referring to his plant magic. He usually dresses in a hat and a trench coat. All of his clothes are black.
Personality[]
Shikimi is a serious guy who usually acts calm, is calculating and intelligent. However, he also has a creepy side since he usually gets excited when his plans don't go as he expects. It has also been shown that he has a cold side since he does not hesitate to attack his opponents and is willing to use firearms if necessary. He uses people at will, discarding them if they are no longer suitable for him utility.
History[]
Most of his past is currently unknown. The only thing that is known is that he has been gathering warlocks with the purpose of resurrecting Jura.
20 years before the current events, Shikimi would go to Migirijima Island where he would discover a familiars gang on the island as well as two warlocks whose mission was to resurrect Jura.[1] A day later, the meeting between the familiars and the warlocks would cause one of them to revive the ghost of Jeanne D'Arc, Shikimi would go to the place and explain the situation to everyone involved and then go on to observe the situation, at the end of the battle, Shikimi would show himself before the group of familiars again to recruit Hibana Suzaki and Soji Kokuryo, not before revealing Jura's true name at the request of Reiji Otogi, cursing him, Ibuki Wakatsuki and Kakuraibo Ashizukayama.[2][3]
Years later, Shikimi would contact an ogre familiar named Ran whom he would convince using his wish to die, for this Shikimi would use a bone from his mother and telling him that if Ran helped him in his plan he would give him the bone to revive his mother and that Ran could die, to which Ran would accept.[4][5]
Time later, Shikimi would recruit Tokiyo Kanou to help in his plan to resurrect Jura, with Tokiyo's magic, Shikimi was able to convince a family of warlocks to use their daughter in the plan, using Tokiyo's magic to train the magic of said witch without transforming her stone and being undetectable for the warning spell.[6]
Some time later during one of Rabuka's visits to the dentist, Shikimi would give her a book in which the protagonist was a man who escaped from his cage thanks to a sword, convincing Rabuka to do the same.[7] Later, Shikimi would recruit her for his plan.
Some time later, Shikimi approached a witch named Ayako Makinose, convincing her to restore her powers if she joined his cause, to which she quickly accepted.[8] Some time later, Shikimi recruited a man named Ryohei Fuchi, who had just obtained his powers, offering him an unknown deal.[9]
After Shikimi's plan failed by turning the witch of thousands into a child, he's currently meeting with Hibana and Soji to make his new plan.[10]
Abilities[]
- Plant Magic: Shikimi can control plants, this allows him to manipulate them to give them the shape he wants. It has also been seen that he can control the plant as such since he can remove it from the place where it was planted.[11] Shikimi can also sense through trees so he can hear entire conversations through a group of trees even if he is not present.[1]
Trivia[]
- His name Shikimi refers to the Japanese Star Anise, referring to his magic to control plants.
- Although his appearance was revealed in chapter 127 and his name in chapter 129, throughout the series there had been hints of Shikimi's existence, these being a flashback to Ayako Makinose's past in chapter 27, a mention by Ryohei Fuchi in chapter 44, a mention by Ran in chapter 85 and an appearance in Rabuka's flashback in chapter 117.
